WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CAMPAIGN
Try Singing Shalom Aleikhem "May You Have Peace"
We sanctify Shabbat by making Kiddush blessings over the wine and Shabbat. Before making Kiddush, the poem Shalom Aleikhem "May You Have Peace" is sung at the table. Shalom Aleikhem is based on a Midrash quoted in the Talmud, Shabbat 119b:
It is taught: Rabbi Yosi, the son of Yehudah says: Two of God's ministering angels accompany a person from the synagogue to home on Friday night - one, an angel of good, the other, an angel of evil. If they come to the house and find candles lit and the Shabbat table set, the angel of good says: "May it be God's will that there be another Shabbat like this one," and the angel of evil is forced to say "Amen" against his will. But if they do not find the house prepared for Shabbat, the angel of evil says, "May it be God's will that there be another Shabbat like this one," and the angel of good is forced, against his will, to answer "Amen."
We sing Shalom Aleikhem to the angel of good and to the angel who says "Amen," welcoming the angels into our homes. What a wonderful way to bring the Joy of Shabbat into our homes at the same time.
