For the Ambitious: Apple Strudel
Dough: Filling:
2 cup flour 1 egg 3 cup thinly cut apples ¾ cup sugar
1 Tbsp sugar cold water ½ tsp cinnamon dash nutmeg
3 Tbsp oil ¼ cup matza meal
Optional: ½ cup raisins ½ cup walnuts
Mix dry ingredients; add egg and oil plus a little water. Continue to mix and
add water to make a dough firm enough to handle. Toss on a lightly floured board and
knead for 3 minutes.
Roll out very thin and evenly. (Remember to flour board and roller so dough does not stick.)
Spread fruit (and nuts) in rows about 2 inches apart.
Sprinkle with sugar, spice and matza meal.
Roll dough over filling and seal. Cut away extra dough. You can use strips of dough to make a pattern on top. Brush strudel with oil.
Bake on cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes or until brown and crisp.
Easy Alternative: Pepperidge Farm turnovers (found in the frozen foods section of many supermarkets) are parve and easily baked.
