Sunday School News

Shalom,

Summer will be here before you know it, We are having our first annual Camp Day at Temple Emanuel on February 7 from 9:00 – 12:00. Come and talk to the different camp directors and see what they have to offer your child. There is a camp for every Jewish child. Breakfast will be served for the parents. After you drop off your child go over to the Social Hall and learn all about these Jewish camps. Wear your camp T-shirt day and eat smores!!
Mazel Tov to Lauren Shepherd for being our December Shabbat attendance winner. The attendance has picked up for services because the children love getting their reward stickers. I’m hoping that attendance at the monthly children’s service will improve; we really have fun things for all the children (toddlers to fifth graders) to do.

Classes were busy learning many different things in January.
• Pre K – 1st grade learned their Alef Bet for all the Hebrew letters; they have begun to learn the numbers to 10. Way to go Ms. Karen’s class.
• Ms. Jason's 4th and 5th grade class continues to explore Israel! The students recently toured Israel's port city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. They sent "postcards" home to their families which are displayed on the small bulletin board on the right when you walk into Sunday school. Did you know that the prophet Jonah set sail from Jaffa and ended up in the belly of a big fish? Our kids continue their pen-pal relationship with the children at Neve Michael's Children's Village and had great fun making Chanukah presents for them last month! Nice job Ms Jason!
• Mr. Sable’s 6th grade class went on a nature walk to the beach. Mr. Sable wanted to share with his class the connection between G-d and nature. A walk to the beach was the way to do that. Great idea Mr. Sable!!

All classes will have a Tu B’Shevat seder to celebrate this wonderful holiday of trees.
Don’t forget your canned food for the pantry. It has been going well but there is always a need for more. The 8th & 9th grades had a session on what they will be doing to help by bagging the food or stocking the shelves for their mitzvah project.

On February 14, the Religious school will be serving lunch at JCOC from 2:00 – 4:00. If you can help out please let me know. There is a list with the food items we need to take over there for their lunch. We will need food and participation from all. If you need community service this will count as some of your hours.

Purim is February 27and we will have a costume parade and contest for the best costume that night for the children and the parents. Start thinking about your costume!! PLUS we will have a mini carnival Saturday evening to celebrate Purim. Let’s make this the best Purim ever.

B’Shalom,
Beth

Temple Emanuel has its own Sunday School which serves children in grades K-Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation. Classes are held at the synagogue on Sunday mornings. Students in grades 3-6 also attend the United Hebrew School (UHS) at the JCC on Wednesday afternoons.
