Stepping Forward: Synagogue
Visioning and Planning

featuring... Robert Leventhal
of the Alban Institute
Drawing on his extensive and fruitful consulting
work in diverse synagogue contexts, Alban senior
consultant Robert Leventhal presents his Synagogue
Visioning and Planning (SVP) model. Using this
substantial yet accessible model, Leventhal
has helped numerous congregations with visioning
and planning, leadership development, and team
building.
He invites not just rabbis and council presidents
but the many reluctant leaders of the congregation
to “jump in” to SVP. This innovative
model combines organizational leadership principles
and core Jewish values to recruit, focus, and
energize the congregation and the community
so that work can be shared and productive. By
including the broadest possible array of leadership
in all stages of the process, SVP can be enthusiastically
embraced by the entire congregation.

Azor Hof HaYam/Seaboard Region
Inaugural Azor hof Hayam Awards
Reception and Celebration
On October
14, 2007 [3 Heshvan 5768], the
Seaboard Region held its initial Young Leadership
Recognition Reception at Ohr Kodesh Congregation,
at 8300 Meadowbrook Lane, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
That exciting evening was a night of friendship and
sacred community, as well as good food, wine and
entertainment, including a Cantorial Interlude during
the honoree presentation. Over 280 individuals signed
up to attend this special evening.
Twenty-four synagogues selected 33 honorees. In
its journal, the Region highlighted the honoree’s
leadership and commitment to their synagogue and synagogue
life and to Conservative Judaism. The honoree presentation
was hosted by USCJ International President Dr. Raymond
B. Goldstein and USCJ Chief Delivery Officer, Barry
S. Mael. Also, Regional President Bill Bresnick
joined the two USCJ leaders to present the honorees’ certificates.
The next Azor Hof
HaYam Young Leadership Recognition Evening will be
held on Sunday evening March
8, 2009 at B'nai Israel Congregation in
Rockville Maryland. Please
mark your calendar.
