Silvia Vidor, Director
Shalom,
By the time you read this article I will be in Israel, visiting family and friends, but this visit is different. It is different because it is more then a visit. It is different because it is an act of support for Israel in a difficult time.
It is said that you count your friends during difficult times, and right now Israel only has a few friends. It is our mission to teach our children of their connection to their homeland -Israel. In our Hebrew High classes in our 6th &7th grades we talked about the situation in Israel. We discussed the accusations, the options and possibilities for the future. In the religious school we collected our tzedaka money for the Red Magen David in Israel and this year it was different. All of us, students and teachers, felt that our help and support is much more needed and appreciated. This year's Yom Ha'Atzmaut program had much more meaning. We sang the Hatikvah - the hope - with much more feeling. We lighted the candles for Israel Memorial Day, and the memories of innocent Jews being murdered in Israel were in our hearts. As we said good-bye to Osi Sladek, he was kind enough to share with us his memories of the day Israel become independent. He also shared his memories of the day he arrived in Israel as a young boy, which made that day even more special. We might be far apart from Israel, but we are one nation. We share the same music, we pray in the same way, we ache for the young lives that have been lost - we are one people. Today with the TV and Internet we are closer than ever to Israel. Teaching our kids support and love for Israel is one of our most important goals as Jews in the Diaspora. We are one nation, please continue to hope and pray for peace.
We had our 7th grade Graduation service on Friday, May 24, and the students once again made us all very proud. The teachers and I enjoyed the dinner that was organized by the parents and we hope to see all the students in Hebrew High next year.
The Confirmation and Graduation service for the Hebrew High on Friday, May 31, was very impressive. I am glad to see this young generation of leaders go into the world to represent us with great knowledge and background, thanks to the great teachers they had.
This year we sent our registration forms for the next year early. This will help you, the parents, to complete all the forms and register the children early, before all the synagogue registration is due. I hope that you will use this opportunity to choose the sessions that are best for your child, and in this way you will help us to accurately purchase books and materials for next year.
I wish everyone a relaxing and restful summer.
