OCTOBER 2002

Sheila Witzling, President

K'siva v'chasima tova - may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year. As I write this we are still in the middle of the Yamim Nora'im, the days of awe. And truly, this year Rosh Hashanah services were awesome! Rabbi Spitz and Cantor Tilchin created services which were beautiful, inspiring, and thought-provoking.

It takes and incredible number of people and a tremendous amount of work to make our High Holidays "happen". Yasher koach and todah rabah to all the volunteers who organize, shlep, do mailings, set up child care, lead services, usher, sing, greet, and generally help out. Your help was greatly appreciated. A special thank you to our staff led by Sandy Klein who handled our many last minute issues, large and small, with grace under pressure.

It still amazes me how much the month of September is filled with holidays and celebrations. We have sukkah building and decorating, Torah writing and dedicating, Sukkot and Simchat Torah services, and of course the start of religious school. If you aren't tired by now, you just weren't participating enough!

October is slightly less hectic at CBI, but still filled with a rich variety of activities. Take a look at the calendar and start blocking out time for your favorites.

One special service note I would like to highlight. One of our goals is to try to keep the warm close feel of a smaller shul even as we grow larger. Beginning on October 4th we will be offering 3 separate and distinct Friday evening services on the first Friday of each month. The first will start at 5:30 pm aimed at families with very young children and will include a kid-friendly Shabbat meal. The second is our regular Friday evening service beginning at 6:15 pm. In addition, we will have a late service at 8 pm. (This service was moved from the second Friday of the month to the first.) We hope this variety of service offerings will encourage more people to enjoy the beauty of the Kabbalat Shabbat service at a time convenient for them. Come to one of these services a few times and let me know what you think.
