SUKKOT!!!!!
That's right people, another holiday is soon approaching us! Sheesh, do Jews ever stop partying and rest? The answer is of course we do...Shabbat is our resting day! So I know you USYers have been bombarded with tons and tons of Jewish holidays lately. You've had to go to shul more, pray more, and even fast in the past few weeks. So first off I want to give you all a big YASHER KOACH for being such wonderful Jews and Dugma'ot (examples). Guess what though? We aren't finished our eating and cooking (and more eating) quite yet. let me explain...
Sukkot is our next Jewish eating craze! So what is Sukkot...?
Sukkot is one of the major holidays in the Jewish calendar! It is one of the three well known Shalosh Regalim (the other two are Pesach and Shavuot). Sukkot is a harvest holiday when we comemorate the harvesting season and the wandering of the desert!
We build "Sukkahs" in our backyards to symbolize the huts that Jews used to build in the desert (as shelter) while they/we were wandering. We eat ALL our meals in the Sukkah and say special blessings. We also shake the Lulav and hold the Etrog as symbols of the harvest season. The first two days of Sukkot are Yom Tovim days (so I ask you not to use this listserve from tomorrow night until Sunday night) as well, the last two days are Yom Tovim. But wait!! The last two days of the holiday aren't really days of Sukkot, they are their own holidays! Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are celebrated on the 14th and 15th of October. Basically it is when we restart the Torah. YAY for restarting the Torah!!
So USYers...there it is!
If you have any questions or just want to talk, you know how to reach me.

You're the best, Pinwheel!!

B'ahava,
