Shavuot

Hello my lovely Pinwheelers!!! I hope all of you had an absolutely AMAZING Regional Convention in the beautiful Victoria, I know I did!! So as your new rel/ed I would like to wish you all a humungous.....
SHABBAT SHALOM!
AND
CHAG SAMEACH!
So as all of you may know today is Friday (yay for the end of the school week)! Meaning tonight, a little before sunset we light our Shabbat candles to start our favorite day of the week, SHABBAT! Now I have a little challenge for you all tonight. As tomorrow is the day of rest (my absolute favorite day of the week) I ask you tonight, as you climb into your cozy beds, think about something that you can add to your day tomorrow to make it an extra special day. Whether it be going to shul (YAY) or eating something sweet...it doesn't much matter as long as it is special to you. I'd like you to keep in mind that Shabbat is special and you can always make it your own.

So can you guess what next Thursday night starts?...that's right, it's SHAVUOT! What is Shavuot all about again? (Don't deny it, I know you're thinking it!). That is why I'm here! So I've picked my brain and I found some fun facts about Shavuot! Here they are:

Numero uno: Shavuot is one of our "Shalosh Regaleem" meaning one of the three "legs" as we call them. (One of the three most important or harvest holidays of the Jewish calendar).

Numero dos: On Shavuot we eat tons and TONS of dairy (and fish). (My mother makes the most delicious mini cheesecakes with chocolate...mmm).

Numero tres: Shavuot is the celebration of recieving the Torah! It marks the end of the "omer" that we count from the second night of Pesach for 49 days (the amount of time that Moses spent on Mount Sinai to receive the Torah).

Numero cuatro: Shavuot is actually two days long! This year one of the "Yom Tovim" days is on Shabbat so we celebrate one full day of Yom Tov and the other day is Shabbat and Yom Tov!

Numero cinco: I LOVE SHAVUOT!

Alrighty my beloveds...there it is! If there are any questions or if you just want to chat you can email me at pnwreled@yahoo.com. (Oh yes and my colorful email is definitely not as colorful as Stephi's were because nobody could ever take her place...I love you Stephi!)

b'ahavah,
