Religious School

Our religious school provides children with a comprehensive Jewish education. Students receive a strong foundation in Hebrew language, liturgy, Jewish history, and the observance of Jewish rituals, customs, and ceremonies. Our Rabbi periodically instructs all grades. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged.

Children in primary grades (K to 2) are introduced to the holidays and Bible stories. They learn about Israel, Tzedakah, and the synagogue. In a playful, entertaining setting, they begin to develop a basic Hebrew vocabulary and a familiarity with the Alef Bet. As they progress, they learn Shabbat and holiday prayers and blessings.

In the middle grades (3rd to 7th), students learn the connection of the holidays with the community and family rituals. The formal introduction to the Alef Bet begins at this time. Students increase their Hebrew vocabulary, learn the meanings and concepts of prayer, and continue studying Torah. They begin to interpret fundamental concepts of Jewish belief, ritual, Halacha, and tradition. In Hai class (7th grade), students begin to focus on Jewish values and the uniqueness of Judaism. Under our Rabbi's guidance, students study the deeper meanings of Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Purim and Passover. The curriculum also includes such topics as the development of the Jewish community in the United States and issues for Jewish living.

Through our Paraprofessional Program, High School students work as teachers' assistants or tutors. Meetings are held regularly to discuss classroom situations, role models, and the transition from student to teacher.
