The importance of Israel to Jews and the centrality of the land and of the city of Jerusalem to Judaism cannot be stressed enough.  They are mentioned in our prayers daily.  Neither can their importance be ignored in the ongoing secular conscience of the Jewish people which has spawned modern Zionism and its predecessors.  [It is so central to the Jewish psyche, that when Theodor Herzl, the "Father of modern Zionism" proposed Uganda as a possible Jewish homeland he was laughed off the stage--any talk of a Jewish "homeland" other than Israel is ludicrous.] A number of excellent maps can be found at the Israel Science and Technology homepage's Maps of Israel page.
