Ordained
in 2007 by the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Siemers was awarded
a Crown Fellowship—as an outstanding candidate for the Rabbinate—during
his years of study there.
Prior
to joining Temple Israel, Rabbi Siemers served for four years as the spiritual
leader of Beth Israel Synagogue in Lexington Park, Maryland. There he
conducted all services, guided congregants through life-cycle events and
ceremonies, taught adult education and religious school classes, and represented
Jewish interests to the wider community.
At
Congregation Beth Zion-Beth Israel in Philadelphia, Rabbi Siemers fulfilled
a cantorial role, running the large shul’s B’nai Mitzvah program
and teaching nusach (traditional music used for chanting prayers,) and
trope.
