birthright israel

KOACH, the College Outreach Department of The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, invites students ages 18-26 to participate in the KOACH birthright israel 2002 program.

Registration for KOACH birthright israel 2002 will take place between Aug. 15 and Oct. 16, 2001. The lottery and notification will take place in October. If you sign up for our birthright israel mailing list, you'll be updated on this information as soon as possible.

birthright israel is an incredible worldwide program that may send as many as 10,000 students to Israel, at virtually no cost, during the next year. The program exists thanks to the philanthropy of many generous individuals and the government of the State of Israel.

KOACH is one of a number of Trip Organizers offering travel through the birthright israel program.

Jewish students (i.e., you were born to a Jewish mother or you have undergone a conversion) who have never been to Israel on a peer educational program are invited to apply for the KOACH birthright israel trip, a free* 10-day travel and study mission, scheduled for early January 2002. (View the itinerary...)

This is a marvelous opportunity to experience Israel through the prism of ancient and contemporary texts, walk in the footsteps of our ancestors and have first-hand experience with the Masorti Movement.

The trip will observe Kashrut and Shabbat and the group will davven regularly.

For questions and more information, contact Rabbi Elyse Winick at winick@uscj.org or (781) 784-8434.

You are strongly encouraged to review our Frequently Asked Questions next. The application process begins Aug. 15, 2001. If you're on our birthright israel mailing list, we'll be sure to inform you as soon as the application is available.

*A required deposit of $250 is refundable following the return from Israel. Covered expenses do not include travel to and from New York (our departure point) from other American cities.

Initiated by philanthropists Charles R. Bronfman and Michael H. Steinhardt, birthright israel is the most extensive philanthropic Jewish outreach program ever to target Jewish young adults. birthright israel's mission is to present lifelong Jewish values to Jewish young adults worldwide through a first educational peer-group trip to Israel.

The birthright israel gift is made possible through a $210 million partnership from a group of prominent philanthropists, local Jewish Federations, the people of Israel through their government, Keren Hayesod and The Jewish Agency for Israel.

The birthright israel gift covers roundtrip airfare plus 10-days of educational programming in Israel. Any Jewish youth, 18-26 (post high-school), who has never been to Israel on a peer-group educational program, is eligible to apply for the birthright israel gift.
