October: Disabilities

Hey guys!
I hope you all had a fantastic Rosh Hashanah, enjoying quality time with family, friends, services, and of course, all those apples and honey (I know I did!) As we welcome the New Year, I think it is appropriate that we all take a step back and look at our lives. I think that we are all very lucky, given loving families and a roof over our heads. Unlike many people, we are fortunate enough to be able to come home at night and sit down to have a descent meal.

For this year, I will be introducing an "Awareness Topic a Month". Each topic will address a common problem occurring throughout the world, not just here in America. One thing that is very important is AWARENESS. I ask that you try to implement programs or projects circling around these issues. Teach your chapters, friends, and each other about these dilemmas. By educating one another, and learning how we can make a difference, we are all making the world a healthier and safer environment. Allow this to be a fresh start to your new year, fulfilling a remarkable mitzvah.

Now, I am proud to announce that the Awareness topic of October is:
*Drum roll please...*

DISABILITIES!

Take a minute to go eat your favorite food. What ever it may be- pizza, ice cream, a nice juicy steak. Wasn't that delicious? Do you realize how fortunate you are to be able to taste that? Look outside, at the beautiful stars or sunset, or the fall leaves just beginning to change color. Aren’t you thankful that you are able to see this nature? Throughout the world, not just the United States, people suffer from various disabilities and learning impediments. There is a wide range of programs available to those in need, although many still remain unassisted. A disabled person is not all that different from any of us, however. Sure, they may be physically or mentally incapable of doing the same things  we are. But does that mean they aren't a human being? Weren't we all create B'tzelem Elokim, in god's image?

This month, do something for a disabled person. Or, teach about the importance to help the disabled. There are many organizations you can  refer to- my personal favorite is INTRA (Israel National Therapeutic Riding Association). TAKE ACTION NOW! :)

If you are having any trouble with program ideas, or you just have any questions, please please please contact me. I would love to hear from  you!

B'shalom,
Adina :)
