January: Domestic and Child Abuse

I know that I myself do not think about this enough. Did you know that there estimates range from 960,000 known incidents of domestic abuse against a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend to 3 million women who are physically abused by their husbands or boyfriends every year ? And these are only the people we know about.
As for child abuse, it is known that children who experience maltreatment are at increased risk for unfortunate health effects and behaviors as adults—including smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse, eating disorders, severe obesity, depression, suicide, sexual promiscuity, and certain chronic diseases. Children often targeted and at risk for abuse include those with disabilities, those with abusive parents, those living in an abusive community, those with an incohesive family, and so much more.
 
But there is good news, USY- YOU CAN HELP!!
By expanding awareness and information about domestic and child abuse, you can increase positive attitudes towards the non-violence, and encourage others to help the victims.
For example, HHV, the Hand & Human Services offers assistance to those victims.
 
Communities United Against Violence assits those who are victims of domestic abuse.

There are also many organizations that help the abused children, such as the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).
