K'TANIM PRESCHOOL - PROGRAMS
LITTLE EXPLORERS
(Ones class)
Once a week, 9:30-11:00 a.m.
Each child is accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The morning will include exploration of toys, art material, Shabbat snack, age appropriate stories, music and large motor activities both indoors and on the outdoor playground.
TWO YEAR OLD CLASS
Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00-11:30 a.m.
beginning in December, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Our main goal is to lead the children comfortably through the separation process and then expand upon the child's growing sense of independence. Class size is limited to eight children with two teachers. Children do not need to be potty-trained.
THREE YEAR OLD CLASS
3, 4 or 5 day, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Optional Lunch 12:00-1:00 p.m.
The day is made up of familiar and predictable routines. Children feel confident to explore independently and to discover and learn through play. Class size is limited to thirteen children with two teachers. Children do not need to be potty-trained.
FOUR YEAR OLD CLASS
Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Optional Lunch 12:00-1:00 p.m.
A more varied curriculum includes activities that develop the children's pre-reading, math and writing readiness skills, while continuing developmentally appropriate activities in science, art, music and dramatic play. Class size is limited to thirteen children with two teachers.
ENRICHMENT CLASSES
What's Cooking?
1:00-2:00 p.m.
(This class is offered for the 3's and 4's classes)
The children will enjoy cooking or preparing a different healthy food each week. The cooking project will follow the theme of a story book about a food, which will be read to the class. The children will enjoy making pretzels, pizza, soup, muffins, etc. which they will be able to take home to share with their families. They will also make a recipe book to be taken home at the end of the year.
Exploring Science
1:00-2:00 p.m.
(This class is offered for the 3's and 4's classes)
In this class the children will do a hands-on science experiment. The children will enjoy learning about colors, magnets, floating and sinking, bubbles, wind and rain, plus much more. They will be able to take their projects home. This class will expose the children to the thrill of scientific discovery and a love for science.
Art the Artist's Way
1:00-2:00 p.m.
(This class is offered for the 4's class only)
This is a hands-on, experiential, process oriented class. We will explore art using all our senses. In this class the children will be introduced to a variety of artistic mediums. We will experience many known "great artists" through creative and innovative venues. We will also take the opportunity to explore new cultures through art.
EXTRA CURRICULAR PROGRAMS AND TRIPS
K'tanim Preschool offers a variety of trips for the three and four year old children as well as many programs which are brought into the school for the two, three and four year old classes.
Trips
Plasko Farm, St. Vincent Hospital, Garbage Museum, Fairfield Woods Library, Jackman Park and Fire Department, the Jewish Home for the Elderly to sing holiday songs, a train trip to the Milford Duck Pond, and a Children's play.
Programs
Mad Science, The Beardsley Zoo mobile, Maritime Center, Yoga classes, and Music and Movement classes.
FAMILY PROGRAMS
K'tanim Preschool offers many family programs for parents to participate in with their children. The children will sometimes entertain the parents with many holiday songs they have learned. We offer a beginning of year Ice cream party, Thanksgiving program, family Shabbat dinners, Passover program, Special Person Day, Mother's Day Shabbat and an end of year family program.
Congregation Beth El Young Family committee also offers many family programs which all the preschool families are welcome to participate. They include a Sukkah lunch, Hanukkah party and Havdallah dinner.
