According to the region’s by-laws, in addition to all of the above, the following constitute the Region’s Board of Directors: all past and present central officers residing in the region, the President and USCJ representative from each synagogue, the head of eachaffiliated arm, all Committee Chairs, and the regional executive director.

 stephen golubStephen Golub, President, is a CPA whose practice focuses on tax compliance, business valuations and litigation support services. In addition to being certified in Connecticut and New York, Steve has additional certifications and/or recognition in the fields of management and forensic accounting. He has served as Financial Secretary for the Connecticut Valley Region and is a past president of Congregation Beth El in Norwalk, currently serving on their Board of Trustees and as a Director of the Beth El Memorial Park.

Shirley MorrisonShirley Morrison, President Elect is a Past President of B’nai B’rith Women, Rose of New England Chapter in Norwich; Past President of Indian Valley Chapter of ORT in Windsor; and past President of Beth Hillel Synagogue, Bloomfield, CT.  She has held various positions in the Beth Hillel Sisterhood in Bloomfield, and on the synagogue’s Board of Directors.  She is an active member of the CT Valley Branch, Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, and has held various positions including President.  She has served as a VP of CT Valley Region, USCJ and is currently Secretary.  She is Past President of the Board of the Federation Homes in Bloomfield, CT.

Louis B. Blumenfeld, Regional VP, is a general practice attorney who has served on the  CVR Board of Directors for several years as its Legal  Committee chair, a role which he continues in his position as a VP.  He is a general practice attorney in Hartford with a practice primarily devoted to defending individuals and entities in professional liability matters before administrative bodies and in trial and appellate courts, and advising and representing insurance companies on insurance coverage issues in and out of court.  He is admitted to practice before the all Connecticut courts, the United States District Court for Connecticut , the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States .   Mr. Blumenfeld served as President of Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield from 1995 to 1997 and also has served as Chair of the Board of Education, VP and Assistant Treasurer.  He also has served the Town of Bloomfield as chair of the Town Council Emergency Medical Systems Committee and as Vice Chair of the Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee, each for many years.

david nemirovDavid Nemirow, Regional VP, is a retired Public School Teacher with 35 years experience. He has been the  Principal of Temple Beth Tefilah, East Hartford Religious School for 25 years, and  is a Past President of Temple  Beth Tefilah for 4 years. He has been a Religious School and B’nai Mitzvah Teacher for 37 years.  He has served as High Holiday Hazzan at Temple Beth Tefilah for 30 years, and has served as Chairman and Master of Ceremonies for Israel Bonds East of the River event, has served as chairman for 5 years, and  one year he was an honoree.  David has served on the Regional Board of USCJ as Social Action Co-chair.  He has been the Co-chair of Ritual Committee Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield for 20 years, where he has also served on the Board of Directors.

Shira Rosenblatt, Regional VP is a past President of Temple Beth Sholom in Hamden .  She currently is serving as Chairperson of Makom, the Jewish High School of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.  She is a past Religious Vice President of Temple Beth Sholom.  She taught first grade in that Hebrew school for 9 years and for the past few years has been a B’nai Mitzvah tutor.  Shira is married to Gregory a patent attorney and partner at Wiggin and Dana in New Haven   They have three daughters.

Cindy Weiner, Regional VP,  is the immeidate past president of Congregation Beth El in New

New London , CT , having served on the board for 12 years.  She has held various positions on the board of directors and was also a past president of the synagogue's Sisterhood. In addition to her time at Beth El she has volunteered at Solomon Schechter Academy and The Williams School, where her 2 children attend school.  Cindy is married to Barry, president and owner of Barry's Cleaners and they have 2 daughters

David Elkodsi, Regional Secretaryis a past President, and currently a Trustee, of Congregation B’nai Torah in Trumbull. He is active in the Boy Scouts of America, presently serving as Chairman of the Jewish Committee on Scouting for the Connecticut Yankee Council and is active in Troop 15 in Stamford (sponsored by the local Jewish War Veterans post). He is a staff advisor to the CT Yankee Council Youth Leader Training course, received the Council’s Shofar award in 2005 and has been recognized by the Narragansett Council of RI for his contributions to Jewish scouting. He also serves as an Educational Counselor for MIT. David and his wife Susan are co-owners of UNP Advertising, Inc. which specializes in recruitment advertising. They have two children.

deborah horwitz Deborah Horwitz Benson, Financial Secretary, is a Past President of Congregation Beth El, New London, CT, and is a member of the Advisory Council of USCJ. She also served as Treasurer of Congregation Beth El, New London for many years.  She formerly served on the Board of the Solomon Schechter Academy of New London.  She is a retired attorney, having practiced for twenty years in Norwich, CT.  She currently teaches Information Technology at Solomon Schechter Academy.  Her husband, Gregg, an Assistant General Counsel at Pfizer Inc. in Groton, CT, is a past President of the Solomon Schechter Academy of New London, CT and is currently Treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Southeastern Connecticut. They have three children.

 miriam bensonMiriam Benson, Executive Director received her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania.  She then lived in Israel for 6 years, during which time she studied law at Hebrew University and worked as an attorney.  Upon her return to the United States, she worked as an attorney in New York and Connecticut, and is currently the Executive Director of the Connecticut Valley Region of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.   Ms. Benson is married to Rabbi Jon-Jay Tilsen of Congregation Beth El-Keser Israel in New Haven, and has four children.

  Joseph Bacher Joseph Bacher, Immediate Past President, is a Past President of Emanuel Synagogue, Jewish Children's Service Organization, Emanuel Minyonaires, and the Solomon Schechter Parent Organization.  He serves on the Boards of Emanuel Synagogue, JCSO, and Minyonaires, and served on the Boards of Midrasha and JFS.  He is active on the Ritual and High Holiday Committees, and with JCSO Projects.  He is currently on the Board of Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford.

Donald MillerDr. Donald Miller, Past President, is a psychologist, and etired in 1997 from the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation serving at Southbury Training School and the North Central Region.  During his tenure at DMR, he served in numerous leadership positions.  He is a past president of the Emanuel Synagogue; chair of the Ritual Committee; Chairman of the Emanuel Brotherhood World Wide Wrap; past president of the Greater Hartford Probus Club; a financial secretary and board member of the Jewish Children's Service Organization; past president and current treasurer of the CT Chapter the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities; and Secretary–Treasurer of the Northeast Region of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.  He also serves as Treasurer for the Connecticut Valley Region of the FJMC and a co-moderator of the USCJ Presidents List. He attended the USCJ SULAM Challenge Program for Synagogue Vice Presidents in 1994, and has served as VP, CT Valley Region, USCJ.

Eliot Meadow,  Affiliations Chair, is an Information Technology executive for WellPoint Inc. He serves as First VP and next president of Congegation Adath Israel in Middletown CT. Eliot is on the steering comittee for Project Reconnect, the alumni program of USCJ. He also sits on the USCJ Technology Committee. Eliot served on the USCJ International Board in 2005. Eliot has worked at Camp Ramah in the Poconos and as the USY advisor for 3 synagogues in CT and NJ. Eliot has two children who attend Solomon Schechter Day School in West Hartford and Camp Ramah in Palmer MA. His wife Stephanie also works at SSDS and as Rosh Sport for Camp Ramah.

James Pickerstein, Immediate Past President, is a commercial litigation and white collar crime attorney whose practice includes representing individuals and entities in governmental investigations and prosecutions, as well as representing individuals and businesses in commercial disputes and litigation.  He  is a member of numerous prestigious Bar Associations and legal organizations, is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.   Mr. Pickerstein served as President of Congregation Beth El, Fairfield, CT from 1999 to 2001. He has been a member of Congregation Beth El since 1972, and in addition to his service as President, he presently is both a member of the Board of Trustees and of the Ritual Committee.
