Biography:Â Rabbi Avram Kogen, who works in the business world, has extensive experience in adult education as well as formal and informal education for high school and middle school students. In addition to the expected rabbinic credentials, he holds a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Teaching form Teachers College, Columbia University.
Rabbi Kogen frequently chants the Torah reading in New Jersey.
During his years of rabbinic service, Rabbi Kogen served as a congregational rabbi in York, PA and in Pensacola, FL, where he conceived and executed a strong Adult Education program in close
partnership with members of the synagogue, combining study with community-building. When serving as religious school principal, he paid special attention to integrating education and youth programs into the life of the adult congregation.
Rabbi Kogen worked for many summers in leadership roles at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin. He also has edited a USY sourcebook for teenagers and authored Torah Sparks for the USCJ website for the 5767 year.
Rabbi Kogen's teaching style can best be characterized as one of exploration and discovery. He is proud that his listening skills are at least as good as his speaking skills, enabling him to learn from his students as he teaches. |
