| Biography:Â Academically trained at Princeton (B.A.) and Harvard (M.T.S.) Universities in Religion and Philosophy, and then 10 Years of Doctoral Work at Stanford under Professor (and now JTS Chancellor) Arnie Eisen. My academic foci were the relationship between science and religion, the nature of religious language, and Jewish mysticism. Ordained at Ziegler in 2011, I am the rabbi at Ner Tamid Synagogue in San Diego, where I had been serving as Spiritual Leader for 4 years prior to ordination. Previous winner of the SF Bay Area's $10,000 Jewish Educator Diller prize, as well as the International Academy of Jewish Philosophy's Essay Prize, I am presently working on a manuscript on the relationship of scientific and religious thinking within the Jewish tradition, with a focus on understandings of Torah and liturgy. |
| My topics include: |
- Religion & Science: How Science Can Be Found at the Heart of Torah, Prayer, and Our Understanding of God
- Taking a Prayer Walk: Recovering our Shepherd Spirituality through the Prayers of the Siddur and Making them Meaningful
- Kabbalah: Really Believing in God: Kabbalah Explained Without the Superficiality and Trendiness
- Comparative Religions: Judaism and Buddhism and/or Judaism and Early Christianity
