September 11, 2001 (2002)
WHEREAS the date of September 11, 2001 will be remembered as a tragic date in the history of humankind; and
WHEREAS all peoples of the world who believe in an ethical and moral way of life including those who believe in the Sovereignty of God and the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Humankind are shocked by the events of that day; and
WHEREAS the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and its affiliated branches have a unique interest in studying and memorializing tragic events, sustaining human life and curing the ills and injustices in the world;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the United synagogue of Conservative Judaism hereby urges the members of its affiliated congregations to engage in the following actions:
- To Memorialize the lives of all innocent victims of the tragedy of the events of September 11, 2001 including those who lost their lives in their heroic efforts of rescue; and
- To urge continued governmental and charitable support to the families of the victims including all of those men and women who died and were injured in their valiant attempts to rescue and recover the remains of the unfortunate victims of the events of that day; and
- To salute all governmental leaders, their assistants and employees for their extraordinary continuing efforts to assuage the pain and suffering caused by the tragic events of that day; and
- To support all governments in their wars against terrorism and in their efforts to bring to justice perpetrators of acts that are destructive of human life; and
- To rededicate our constituency to those beliefs which we hold sacred from our study of Torah, our observance of the Commandments set forth therein, our reaching out to all Humankind to heal the ills of the world, the implementation of justice and freedom for all peoples and in the search and hope for peace for everyone.
