WHEREAS understanding the Torah enables the Jew to appreciate that its verities are not time-bound, but have a relevance and pertinence of consequence to the Jew (and to the world) of today - and of every era and it is for that reason that that regular study of Tanakh is an imperative; and

WHEREAS many study Tanakh in any event, however sporadically, an organized regular meaningful and appropriately presented program is necessary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that all affiliated congregations of The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism urge their congregants to participate in the program of daily study, Perek Yomi - one chapter of tanakh each day - launched on Simhat Torah 5760 (October 3, 1999) and that these congregations, in cooperation with the Regions and the Central United Synagogue organization make available guidance, materials, and supplementary study programs to enhance the daily limud.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each region set up a group to promote and enhance the Perek Yomi Project; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each congregation set up a Perek Yomi Committee (as an independent entity or as part of its apparatus on Adult Education) to implement the Perek Yomi Project.
