Global Climate Healing Shabbat
Join the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism as we observe Global Climate Healing Shabbat, October 23-24, 2009, Parashat Noach.
The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism has joined a broad coalition of Jewish religious, public policy and environmental organizations in support of observing Shabbat Parshat Noach (October 23-24, 2009) as Global Climate Healing Shabbat. The observance is designed to provide our communities with a focal point for discussing the danger of global warming and environmental degradation and to plan for how our communities can meet that challenge.
Parshat Noach (containing the story of Noah, the flood, and the divine promise to preserve the world in the future) provides a perfect teaching moment. The timing is also designed to highlight the upcoming United Nations conference on the climate scheduled to be held in Copenhagen in December 2009.
