Mazal Tov President-Elect Obama
November 5, 2008
Dear President-Elect Obama,
On behalf of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, we would like to congratulate you on your historic and profoundly important victory. We are inspired by your win and by what it says about the true meritocracy in which we live.
As Jews, we resonate to your story. We, too, have felt ourselves to be outsiders in this country, and we, like you, found that the American dream often is true, that Americans are willing to overlook prejudice and see truth. As Jews, we are confident that our values – working hard and honestly, learning as much as we can as we increase our understanding of the world around us, helping others who are less fortunate than we, and always trying to keep a clear understanding that this is God’s world and we are here to try to do God’s work in it – are your values.
As Jews, we try to bring a message of hope to the world, and so we share your vision. We know that it is only with hope that people can grow to reach their full potential. But we also know that hope is not enough. We need concrete results. We pledge to you our cooperation and our support as you strive to translate your vision into reality.
We look forward to the next four years with you as our president.
May you go from strength to strength; may we as Americans and as Jews and as human beings go from strength to strength with you.
B’shalom,
Dr. Raymond B. Goldstein
International President
Rabbi Jerome M. Epstein
