Israel's 50th Anniversary (1997)

WHEREAS, the entire Jewish community looks forward with great excitement and anticipation to the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel; and

WHEREAS, we see in the State of Israel the beginning of the total redemption of the Jewish people; and

WHEREAS, THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM from its inception has always been dedicated to the principles of political and religious Zionism;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

  • Every affiliated congregation with the support and assistance of the Central Office, urge its members to participate in a United Synagogue mission to Israel specifically designed to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Jewish State; and
  • Every affiliated congregation appoint an Israel Affairs Committee as a standing committee; and
  • THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM use all of its vehicles, including the United Synagogue Review to describe the miracle of Israel and its impact on the Jewish community as well as on the human community, and most particularly note the special contribution of the Masorti Movement and the Center for Conservative Judaism in Israel in the rebuilding of the State of Israel; and
  • Each affiliated congregation in concert with the other organizations of the Conservative Movment, continue to encourage the mitzvah of Aliyah; and
  • In this anniversary year, all efforts be made to strengthen and expand Kibbutz Hanaton, the first kibbutz under Masorti auspices, as well as Moshav Shorashim; and
  • We continue in even greater effort to support the joint United Synagogue - JNF projects.
