How You Can Help: About the Department of Development

The newest department in the United Synagogue is the Department of Development.

The Department is charged with the following vital functions:

  1. to coordinate and strengthen the Capital Campaign for the new Shirley and jacob fuchsberg Center in Jerusalem;
  2. to coordinate the present on-going fundraising efforts of the USCJ; and
  3. to devise approaches to find appropriate funding for new and existing programs and special projects of the USCJ and its regions.

Shirley and Jacob Fuchsberg Center in Jerusalem

This project has become an important focal point for the United Synagogue and the Conservative Movement. It is and will be the center of North American Conservative Judaism in Israel. Because of its central location in Jerusalem, Israel's political and spiritual capital, the Center underscores the commitment on the part of United Synagogue to provide a "home away from home" for the hundreds of young people who come to Israel as part of a USY delegation, or the NATIV program, or to study at either the on-site Yeshiva or as part of the US High program. In addition, hundreds of adults and seniors come to the Center and are expected to come in much larger numbers as part of their visits to Israel. The Center's goal is $25 million.

Ongoing Fundraising Programs

The Department now has the responsibility to pull together all of the various strands of fund raising carried out by the central office of USCJ to provide more cohesion and coordination. Included in the program are all of the mass mailings, the new Sustainer Campaign, and endowment and planned giving.

Programmatic Support and Special Projects

As part of an overall effort to maintain and improve the program and operations of USCJ, an important initiative has been launched by the Development Department. Focusing initially on existing programs, and extending eventually to new and special programs, the USCJ will seek funding to build up it endowment program and support for special projects.
