About

The USCJ Department of Education Now Offers Early Childhood Consultation Services!

See Maxine Handelman, our early childhood consultant, talk about her goals, her work, and her dreams for early childhood programs in United Synagogue congregations and Solomon Schechter day schools.

Early childhood education is an important vehicle and foundation for lifelong Jewish learning and commitment. That's why the United Synagogue now offers an early childhood consultation service that provides active support for early childhood programs in USCJ congregations and Schechter day schools.

Specifically:

  • The early childhood consultant is available on a limited basis to work directly in preschools teaching teachers, evaluating classroom and school environments, helping improve the curriculum and the relationship between the school and synagogue.
  • The early childhood consultant is available to discuss other synagogue-sponsored early childhood programming, such as Tot Shabbat.
  • The early childhood consultant is available to discuss with parents and lay leaders how essential a high-quality Jewish early childhood experience is in the life of a Jewish family, and why a congregation needs an early childhood program (and how much it will really cost!).
  • The early childhood consultant is available to the rabbi and cantor to explore ways in which they can become more involved in the life of the preschool, and how they can integrate the preschool more fully into the life of the synagogue.
  • The early childhood consultant is available to assist the congregation in beginning a new preschool or early childhood programming.
  • United Synagogue hosts listservs Listservs now exist for early childhood directors and teachers. To join: Click on "Join or leave the list (or change settings)" and fill in your information from there.
