Assault Weapons (1995)
WHEREAS, Gun Control legislation (Brady Bill) was previously passed by the United States Congress and signed into law by President Clinton; and
WHEREAS, leaders of the current United States Congress have been discussing and advocating a repeal of the assault weapon provisions of the so-called Brady Bill resulting in a deregulation of the use and ownership of so-called assault weapons; and
WHEREAS, a lawful and orderly society should seek to control the use and ownership of so-called weapons, which are, designed for military and crime purposes only.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM:
- Reaffirms its resolution on gun control approved by THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM at its 1993 Biennial Convention; and
- Opposes any effort to modify or amend current Federal law so as to repeal the existing ban on assault weapons; and
- Opposes any legislation facilitating the carrying of concealed weapons by the general public.
