Gun Control (1993)

WHEREAS, escalating violence in the home and on the streets of America creates serious impediments to life, liberty, and happiness; and

WHEREAS it is undisputed and uncontrolled acquisition and use of handguns, semi-automatic rifles and similar weapons result in greater acts of violence upon members of this society; and

WHEREAS, a peaceful society should seek to control the acquisition and use of handguns, semi-automatic rifles and similar weapons in order to assure domestic peace and tranquility within the home and upon the streets of that society.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM calls upon all appropriate governmental authorities to enact and implement suitable rules and regulations restricting the acquisition and use of handguns, and/or semi-automatic military assault rifles and similar weapons, giving due consideration to the Constitutional Rights relating to this issue; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that THE UNITED SYNAGOGUE OF CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM commends the U.S. Congress in passing the Brady Bill which will require a national five (5) day waiting period to allow police to conduct background checks on hand gun purchasers.
